In 2006 we set up our Kent Time Trials cycle team.
Our riders Reg Smith and Mark Wright compete for prize money which is donated to Demelza House Childrens Hospice local to us in Sittingbourne.
The company also donates prize money to Demelza based upon our riders finishing positions.
We have organised 3 sponsored cycle rides for anyone who knows us to take part in...
2007 - 40 miles from Demelza Sittingbourne to the under constructino Demelza Eltham. Raised £15,000
2008 - 125 miles from Demelza Eltham to Demelza James, Hailsham, then on to Demelza Sittingbourne. Raised £5,000
2010 - 50 miles from Demelza Sittingbourne around the Kent Countryside and back to Demelza Sittingbourne. Raised £7,000 so far...
The idea with the sponsored cycle rides is to get people who don't normally ride a bike to take on a challenge and get sponsored doing so.
One of our regular stars taking part is top UK drummer Steve White. Steve always manages to raise a large amount of money on these events.
One of the UK's most respected drummers, Steve White, was among around 40 cyclists who rode to and from Demelza's hospice in Sittingbourne as part of a challenge organised by local building contractor, DCB Kent Limited.
Steve, who took part in the challenge on June 13th, worked with Paul Weller for 25 years from the start of the Style Council until 2007
He also played with Oasis, The Who and at both the Band Aid and Live Aid concerts. Steve and his partner actress Sally Lindsay are passionate supporters of Demelza and have supported their local Demelza hospice in Eltham through and since its construction.
Steve has connections with DCB Kent directors Chris and Caroline Webster and with Medway-based drum tutor Mark Wright who rides for the DCB Kent cycle team along with British cycling legend Reg Smith.
The challenging circular route took cyclists towards Ashford through villages such as Bitling, Chilham and Sheldwich and back to the Demelza Hospice to finish.
The event was supported by members of the West Kent Road Club, and by Tim Woodlock of Gillingham bike shop Bikes Bikes Bikes, who fixed at least eight of the bikes at various points along the route. Without Tim, these riders would have been unable to complete the challenge.
Sittingbourne-based DCB Kent are no strangers to cycling challenges - the company's cycle team has been racing for four years raising funds by donations and prize money. They also organised two sponsored cycle events, one in 2007 and one in 2008.
